His photographs are printed with a rare tonal sensitivity that is often made bolder with his unusual emphasis on, and ability to use, visual contrast and design. There is an interplay in his photographs between space, shape, line, and form with light and shadow, which always results in a clear, direct and concise visual statement. His obvious keen eye and craftsmanship reaches into his intuitive realm. Charles has developed an ability to surrender to his subjects and to his creative inspiration in order to capture the inner light that we all seek in our images.

 

Charles studied and practiced his craft over these many years in order to perfect his technique and ability to execute these procedures intuitively. He has been able to seamlessly combine this technically ability with his aesthetic approach and communion with his subject matter. In this way his analytical and logical functions, that we all rely on, become inseparable from his feelings and emotional response to his subject – they all flow intuitively to produce an inspired approach to image making.

 

One attribute that Charles demonstrates in his life is a discipline and work ethic in relating to the many challenges we all face in life. He has responsibly dealt with these many life issues and yet, with the help and support of his life partner Marta, he has been able to stay the course in his personal devotion to his love for the art and craft of photography. We have all benefited from his blending of his personal and family life with the joys and challenges of photography. He and Marta have made this effort together and it has blessed us all.

 

His images are a result of the reverence and deeper intent that Charles brings to his work and to his life. Now, we as the viewers and recipients of this beautiful talent need to bring our own reverence and our own internal sensitivity and openness to our viewing and enjoyment of these exquisite images.
